Apple's new iPhones for 2018

We’ve been desperate to find out what Apple have in store for us this year, so we glued ourselves to last night’s announcement and can now bring you the lowdown on all the fantastic new features.

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

Size matters. When it comes to phone screens anyway, and the iPhone XS doesn’t disappoint. With its beautiful top-to-bottom, edge-to-edge, 5.8-inch, Super Retina, OLED display.

The iPhone XS Max makes us swoon too – it’s the biggest iPhone ever with a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED display.

Both the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XS boast a resolution of 2,688 x 1,242 – the highest ever quality display on an iPhone.

Not only are the screens even better, but the new A12 Bionic processor is pretty awesome too. Tim Cook even went as far as to describe the iPhone XS Max as “the most advanced iPhone we have ever created.”

Apple have also unveiled the new iPhone XR. With its 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display, it’s got the most advanced LCD display of any smartphone. It includes the same A12 Bionic Processor as the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XS giving it an iPhone X experience on an LCD display.

The camera.

Both iPhone XS and XS Max have a Dual-lens 12MP camera with wide and telephoto lenses. And if that wasn’t enough, the front-facing camera on each is 7MP, which will bring depth to portrait mode photos. You can even adjust the depth after the photo is taken to give you a professional Bokeh effect that blurs the background and brings clarity and vibrance to whatever you have in the foreground.

Because of the power of the A12 Bionic chip inside the devices Apple have promised you’ll get even more from the camera than you can the iPhone X. Impressive algorithms detect faces and bodies and give you automatic and instant red-eye reduction. And the Smart HDR feature can identify highlights and find shadow detail in your pics.

The iPhone XR has a single-lens 12MP camera with a wide-angle lens and also has Face ID and the True-Depth camera system that you get with the XS. All new iPhone cameras also have an improved ‘True Tone’ flash which measures the light temperature and uses just the right colour to get the correct colour balance and make the intensity just right. iOS 12

iOS 12 will officially come to iPhone and iPad on 17th September, but if you really can’t wait, you can download the public beta now. iOS 12 brings you stronger performance updates, including a 50% faster keyboard display and twice as fast app launching.

iOS 12 also boasts 4 new Animojis that you can now add straight on your pictures, along with new stickers, filters and text effects – no editing required!

ARKit 2 means AR objects can be sent through messages and mail, and Measure, a new app for AR in iOS 12, will also be released, giving functionality to measure real-world objects just by pointing your camera at them.

As well as all of this, iOS 12 has a new notification feature, which means you can stack your notifications and adjust their alert volume. And last, but by no means least, the new photo organisation means you can search your pictures in smarter ways, using locations, events and people to search.
